CSA what?
Community Supported Agriculture, that is...a pretty cool community that we've been a part of for the past several weeks. It came to my attention via a facebook friend, and I started talking about it with Grant's family. We decided to go in together and try it out.
Kale chips make a deliciously light and healthy after-dinner snack.
We pay a certain amount for a share of produce, which we pick up each week for 22 weeks during the summer and early fall. It's been quite an adventure, as we've been eating foods that we've either never tried or rarely eat. The best part is that we are supporting a local farm and that we are getting fresh, organic produce. Most of it is harvested the day before we pick it up, and some is even harvested the day of! The added bonus is that the family also shares their favorite recipes, which have been a blast to try! Two of our favorites so far have been Kale Chips (pictured above) and Turnip Fries.
I cook my turnip fries more like chips...thin and crispy! Yum!
I can assure it that it is more time consuming to cook, steam, braise, and prepare all of our produce, but the benefits are well worth it to me!
Love, the George family
Sounds like something we might end up trying! The turnip chips look just like chips. What a fun experience!
ReplyDeleteIt has been an enjoyable experience! Next time we get together, I will have to bring over one of my creations to try out :)
DeleteVery fun ....can't wait to test some.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun! It's been a little frustrating for me at times, when I'm not quite sure what the finished product is supposed to look like. But I've really enjoyed trying new things and having lots of healthy food around!
DeleteKale chips look interesting...I thought it was a tossed salad, but I realize the red is the bottom of your dish. I agree the turnip chips look just like potato chips. Never had a turnip. How does the flavor compare to a potato? Sounds like a win/win situation for all involved! Nice :D
ReplyDeleteMom XOXOX
Yeah, Grant really likes the Turnip Fries/chips! He was actually really excited when he saw that we are getting more turnips this week. Haha! It's the last week for them, though, so I guess we'll be on to other adventures! You will definitely get a taste of the produce when you are down here later this summer :)
DeleteCan't wait to try the fresh produce :) Nom nom nom :D XOXOX Mom
